Military Awards for Valor

America has a time-honored tradition of recognizing the acts of valor performed by soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. Many great Americans, including some from Pennsylvania, have been brave and heroic in service. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is providing a convenient way for you to see a complete list of all the men and women who have been awarded the most prestigious awards for valor for their incredible feats while serving our nation.  

By clicking Awards of Valor you can access a searchable database of individuals who have been awarded the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, the Air Force Cross and the Silver Star, which are granted for heroic service in the armed forces of the United States. 

You may also appreciate knowing that Pennsylvania is home to Medal of Honor Memorials.

Soldiers' and Sailors' Grove, located behind the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is the site of the commonwealth's Medal of Honor Memorial. This memorial lists the names of each recipient, including those from the Civil War. A historical marker here also commemorates the United States Colored Troops Grand Review.

Soldiers' and Sailors' Grove is a formal tree-lined mall which serves as a memorial to all the Pennsylvanians who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces or the Pennsylvania National Guard. The grove links the vista of the main Capitol building to Fisher Plaza and overlooks the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Bridge. It defines the symmetry of the original Capitol Complex and functions as the site of numerous events and activities.

Our Commonwealth is also home to the nation's oldest memorial site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients on the campus of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. More information about the Medal of Honor Grove in southeastern Pennsylvania is available on the Friends of the MOH website.
