Civil Service Employment
DMVA utilizes a number of Civil Service positions, such as Accountants, Budget Analysts, Human Resource professionals, Engineers, Police Officers, and Nurses. These positions are hired through the State Civil Service Commission using a merit system.
To be considered for employment in any Civil Service job title, the applicant must complete an application for a specific job title. The applicant will then be scheduled to take a test (or for some job titles, submit a supplemental application). Applicants are then placed in score order on a Civil Service list, which agencies may request when they have a vacancy in a Civil Service position.
